Medical Oncology & Hematology Expands into Orange

Medical Oncology & Hematology Ribbon CuttingMedical Oncology & Hematology P.C. celebrated its grand opening in Orange with a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house on Monday, November 3, 2008.  Dr. LaSala, joined by her colleagues Dr. Daniel Y. Reuben and Dr. John C. Rhee, welcomed guests including First Selectman James Zeoli and members of the Orange Chamber of Commerce and medical community.  Dr. LaSala said, "It is exciting to be joining the Orange community and we are looking forward to delivering high quality, state of the art oncology care to all those in the area.  Our mission is to provide oncologic expertise in the community setting so that patients who must face a devastating illness can receive the same level of care as an academic medical center but in a warm and nurturing environment.  By offering community based oncology, we are able to increase efficiency yet still provide the highest level of care in a welcoming setting".

First Selectman James Zeoli said, "We are pleased to have Medical Oncology & Hematology here in Orange.  The practice has roots in the Orange community and it is gratifying to see that when they chose to expand, they chose to do so in Orange."  Medical Oncology & Hematology  was started over thirty years ago by Dr. Leonard Farber who is still an important part of the MOH practice today.  Medical Oncology & Hematology P.C. grew from four physicians in two offices to twenty-four physicians in eight offices located throughout New Haven County.

Paul Grimmer, Executive Director of the Orange Economic Development Corporation stated, "Spring Brook Common is Orange's newest mixed use complex focusing on professional medical office and retail uses.  the development has been a huge success and is nearly 80% sold or leased.  Thus far, three businesses have opened their doors for operations, including Medical Oncology & Hematology, Spring brook Deli and Shim's Cleaners.  Over the next months, we expect to see another crop of new businesses open within the Spring Brook Common Development at 240 Indian River Road.

Orange Business Visitation Program

The United Illuminating Company and the Orange Economic Development Corporation have commenced a Business Visitation Program.  The outreach program, which will initially target business located within Orange's Light Industrial Zones is designed to meet one on one with local business to discover business challenges and explore solutions that will help companies grow and prosper within the town.

Mr. Thomas Cariglio, Economic Development Specialist for The United Illuminating Company who currently serves as the Treasurer of the OEDC, will join Paul Grimmer Executive Director on the 30 minute interviews.    Paul Grimmer said, "Our first interview which was held on November 14th with Med-Aid, LLC., was limited to 30 minutes and was very enlightening.  Not only were we able to learn more about the specific business, but we had a wonderful opportunity to discuss many of the activities currently going on in Orange.  I think this business learned as much about Orange as we learned about them."

The Business Outreach Program, originated by the United Illuminating Company, seeks to identify areas of business concerns; such as but not limited to reducing energy costs, accessing local sources of capital for business expansion, and taking advantage of grants or low interest loans to conduct environmental remediation activities.
